Hazard Tree Form

GVEA maintains a 15-foot clearing on each side of our primary power lines. This area is known as the Right of Way (ROW). Maintenance in the ROW includes clearing foliage growing under the lines, overhanging branches, leaning or other types of “hazard” trees that could pull down a primary power line if they fall, and trees that have grown into the primary lines.

This form is only to be used for vegetation growing near the primary power lines (i.e. Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA)-owned).

The service drop, which is the line that connects your house or business to GVEA’s primary line, is owned by you, the member; therefore, it is your responsibility to maintain it. The service drop is the line from your home or business to the pole (i.e. meter pole, yard pole or transformer pole, whichever comes first). A 4-foot wide area (2 feet on each side of the service drop) between your home or business to the pole should be kept clear of trees and brush from the ground to the sky. This applies even if your service is underground rather than overhead.
